Our Process for Project Success
We’re thorough, transparent, and collaborative.
You can trust our process and our team to keep your project running smoothly. Here's how it works:
From the moment we receive a request for quote our experienced project managers bring the whole team together: estimators, executive management, project managers, our purchasing department, and shop superintendent — and if needed we reach out to our partners: detailers, erection crews…whoever will be needed to get the WHOLE job done. We then go through a thorough list of questions that reflect the full breadth of our experience, and we share our own to-dos & meeting notes with every concerned party.
This is how we start every project, and it’s the secret sauce for how we finish every project, too!
Our purchasers have their fingers on the pulse (and the shipping calendars) of all our suppliers. We know the importance of mill run timing, especially for bigger / specialty pieces of steel. When needed, we work with the best detailers in the business to make sure our drawings are accurate and our orders reflect the complete inventory needed.
Our purchasing team is there from the beginning to look ahead and assure we don’t miss any crucial production windows at the yard. We begin looking before the steel even rolls out of the mill! We work with lengths up to 100 feet. We don't shy away from the big jobs or the big beams. We'll get the order, the permits, the crew, and we'll get the steel ready for your job.
On average, we process more than 500,000 pounds of steel per month. We can handle structural members up to 30,000 lbs. (15 tons) and 100' in length. Our shearing plate handles up to 3/4" thickness. We handle beam cambering up to 36" wide beams. Cambering enables us to pre load steel members for future loads on the steel once erected. Our Python-X Robotic Plasma Cutting Line plasma cuts beams up to 48" wide x 18" high x 100’ long. We also cut and cope angles up to 6 x 6 x 0.5 inches. Finally, our welders are continuously trained and certified to AWS D1.1, so we can do any welds needed for the job; and we primer coat all members for initial protection prior to assembly.
We’re meticulous about properly staging and sequencing delivery as the building is being constructed. This is all part of the detail we begin flushing out as far back as the kick off meeting. We work closely with GC’s and offer our own input and consultation on proper sequencing. It’s all part of the team effort we engage on every project.
Our detailed work culminates with a clean and fully-complete close out. Carefully executed structural drawings and any added notes are turned over to the GC, who can then deliver the full drawings, receipts, and owner’s manual to the client.
When our work is done, we go right back to the beginning of this process, and apply everything we’ve learned…for the next project.
We’ve been doing this continually for more than 40 years, and that’s why we’ve developed a real talent for looking ahead.
From the simplest jobs to the most complex—we accept the challenge to create an exceptional result.
