Arlington began engagement on this project with a tremendous amount of up-front work, performed before there was even a bid set of construction documents. McShane Construction’s Tom Beres and IMEG’s Scott Wiercinski brought Arlington in nearly a year before construction began, in order to collaborate on how to build the 145' long x 13' deep trusses that spanned the showroom roof.
Trumpf is a High-End Steel Fabricating Machine Manufacturer and they wanted a building that could show off what their specialized equipment can do. The trusses are built up from massive plate-sections into a three dimensional box truss, with varying depths across the length of the trusses. The trusses themselves were fabricated on Trumpf’s equipment, and Arlington coordinated with all parties to oversee the erection of the building, with other key steel components supplied from our shop. These include the Corten (weathering steel) exterior.

Both the exterior curtain wall support columns and the siding panels are Corten, which add visual interest to the structure. …It certainly jumps out at you when you approach the building!
This is another project that can be seen off of the I-90 Tollway, including its exceedingly tall sign structure, also made with Arlington’s Corten steel.
The Trumpf building and its Vierendeel trusses were featured in Modern Steel Construction's June 2019 issue.
